August is a busy month! Make sure you are taking time to practice self-care. Self-care is not selfish. It is ok to take breaks from constantly doom scrolling through the ongoing onslaught of horrible news, the genocide, and overall capitalist propaganda–to unplug from your devices and be in community with others, in-person. We can't fight for liberation on an empty tank. Solidarity and forward together!

Chapter Meeting Minutes (We will vote to approve these at next meeting)
National Convention
Our delegate, Noah Rude, is heading to Chicago to represent the chapter at the National DSA convention! He was able to partner with some other delegates to get a shared room, but still has travel (train), food, and other miscellaneous costs that he will have to cover out of pocket unless we are able to cover it all for him. Please donate what you can (even $5 will help) as Noah, like all of us, is a proletariat. You can Venmo him @Noah-Rude or use the QR code at the end of this newsletter.
Working Groups
At last month's meeting, there seemed to be consensus on for two working groups, one that focused on mutual aid and volunteering; and one focused on housing justice and tenant organizing, under the organization, Flints Hills Tenants United. We will be voting to formally establish these two working groups at the next meeting. The MAV working group will need an organizing leader, so if you are interested, make sure to come to the meeting or to let someone on the steering committee know of your interest.
Flint Hills Tenants United
Given the rural nature and multiple counties that are served by our DSA Chapter, the current organizing board (Noah, Derron, and Steve) of Renters Together MHK decided to rebrand as Flint Hills Tenants United. This past weekend Noah, Derron, and Steve travelled to Junction City to canvass an apartment complex from which a tenant reached out seeking guidance on how to hold their landlord accountable. Armed with the knowledge and practice that they are getting from the Tenant Union Federation course, they engaged with multiple tenants who seemed interested in taking some collective action!
Committees
We are also forming two committees, a community engagement committee, which will plan monthly events for participants and community members that are social and educational in nature, and an education committee, which will provide opportunities to learn and discuss putting theory into practice. If you are interested in being on either of these committees or helping to lead the organizing of either of them, please let someone on the steering committee know of your interest.Availability Survey
The steering committee would like to get a better idea of the Chapter's availability to participate in Chapter events like meetings, organizing, volunteering, socials, etc. Please fill out your availability by clicking the button below!
