Starting next month, The Meadowlark will be distributed only once a month, on the last Tuesday of each Month. We will recap what we did during the month and provide what is to come for the next month.
January Chapter General Body Meeting
During the Chapter meeting this month we discussed lodging and carpooling to the Kansas DSA state-wide convention, whether to participate in anti-ICE action that took place the weekend after the meeting, and general community safety and best practices.
Kansas DSA Sunflower Solidarity Summit
The Kansas Chapters of DSA organized a state-wide convention that took place on January 17-18, 2026 in Wichita. Some of our members attended the convention and there has been much discussion around the planning process that went into this year's convention, what took place at the convention, and what a future convention should look like.
While time will be set aside for any follow-up discussion of the convention at the next Chapter General Body Meeting, a recent article in The Weekly Rose lays down some of what took place.
Feedback from those who attended the convention is being collected and will be distributed to all chapters in order to determine how to move foward.
January Steering Committee Meeting
During the steering committee meeting this month, we had a follow-up discussion about the Kansas DSA state-wide convention, discussed finally placing and order for chapter t-shirts, and discussed community safety and organizing against ICE.
February Chapter Social
One thing the Steering Committee missed planning was the February social, so I (Derron) am proposing we head over to JPs in the K-State Student Union and pay our resident chef, Matt, a visit and have dinner one night next week. Look for a poll on Discord. If you are not part of Discord, go to our website to request access.
Salina Invitation
The Salina Chapter of DSA invited us to join them Saturday, January 24, 2026 for games at the Salina Public Library, but due to the winter storm was postponed until next Saturday, February 7, 2026. See here for more details
February Chapter General Body Meeting
The February Chapter General Body Meeting will take place on February 12, 2026 on Zoom. We are trying to get away from always using Discord as not everyone who would like to attend has access to discord. We have some important business to discuss at the next meeting:
Organizing and Learning to Support the Community Re: ICE
There are different organizations in Manhattan that are mobilizing to organize rapid response and just to learn more about what we as citizens can do to support our neighbors and to fight against the fascist federal police that is ICE. Below are some of the upcoming trainings:
Political Education
Grab a copy of Blackshirts & Reds: Rational Fascim & the Overthrow of Communism by the late Michael Parenti, and read it before February 22, 2026 and join the Political Education Committee to discuss the book and what it means for the way forward as an organization.

CIVIC
You should still be getting out and meeting your neighbors if you haven't. Right now, CIVIC is focused on building a safe community as it relates to the threats of ICE. To give input to when we should meet as a commmittee, fill out the lettucemeet below.
Tenant Organizing
Noah from Flint Hills Tenants United led discussion on the book, Abolish Rent for the book club read for January. He will disuss the takeaways from the discussion and next steps for organizing tenants in the Flint Hills region at the next Chapter meeting.
