“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.”
– Dom Helder Camara
Welcome to 2026?
It feels a bit disingenious to wish you all a happy 2026, because letʻs face it, it was never going to be a happy 2026 while imperialist capitalism still plagues the world, but know that we have each other and are building toward a world where human dignity for everyone is possible.
The end of a year and the beginning of a new one can be difficult for many, given the exposure to what could be seen as toxic individuals over the various holidays, the pressures of society to reflect on the past and set goals for the future, and the general disruption to our daily routines and captailismʻs requirement that you get back into the swing of things with little to no real rest. Please take care of yourselves and each other. Reach out if you need anything. We truly are all here for each other.
Chapter Growth
In July 2025, the Flint Hills Chapter of DSA elected a new steering committee. We had 24 members in good standing at the time. As of today, we have grown almost 42% and currently have 34 members in good standing. This is despite the stigma and threats against anti-fascsist organizations like DSA.
Chapter General Body Meeting
We have a chapter general body meeting this Thursday, which will take place on Discord at 6pm CST. Please let the steering committee know if you have any announcements or agenda items that you would like to talk about at the meeting.
Kansas DSA Sunflower Solidarity Summit
The Kansas Chapters of DSA have organized a state-wide convention that will take place at the SEIU Union Hall in Wichita, Kansas (3340 W Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67203), Saturday, January 17, 2026 and Sunday, Janaury 18, 2026. This is a great opportunity to get out of Manhattan, meet other DSA members across the state, network, and share in political education. Most of the steering committee will be attending and we can organize car pooling depending on if folks are going for one day or both. Check out the schedule and register using the buttons below.
Political Education
Grab a copy of Abolish Rent: How Tenants Can End the Housing Crisis by Tracy Rosenthal and Leonardo Vilchis, and read it before January 25, 2026 (NB the date has changed due to the State DSA Convention) and join the Political Education Committee to discuss the book and what it means for the way forward as an organization.
