In days of old the turkey fat, And when the feast was over, Today the system’s changed in name. When Socialist laws shall come in play,
Was eaten by the lord;
‘Twas raised by cowed and ignorant serfs
To grace his festive board.
And gluttons had their fill,
In refuse pot the bones were dumped
And workers ate the swill.
The facts aren’t changed a speck.
The capitalists eat the choicest parts,
While the workers get the neck.
We’ll show the useless drones.
The working man will eat the meat,
While the shirker sucks the bones.

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving sits on a foundation built through dispossession, forced removal, and the normalization of settler hegemony. Its origin story masks the violence that made the holiday possible, and any honest acknowledgment requires naming that history directly. Yet the day has also been reframed by many who reject its mythology. Across the United States, people have reshaped it into a moment for mutual care, community gathering, and commitments that stand against the very structures that produced it.
For most of us, we assume the day functions in that reframed register. The steering committee is thankful for the opportunity to meet and work alongside every member of this Chapter. We are thankful for the community that has formed here, for the solidarity we practice, and for the collective work we advance together.
If you find yourself alone this week, reach out, many of us would welcome you into our homes.
