The Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with over 100,000 members and chapters in all 50 states. We believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few.
It is a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters, DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.
We are guided by our socialist principles in everything we do, from generating ideas, making decisions, organizaing, mobilizing, and taking action. Check out our Chapter Bylaws and Points of Unity by clicking the buttons below!
During the 2025 Chapter Convention, comrade, Derron Borders, proposed a Chapter Song, for which he had written the lyrics. The song is called Bloom Red and White is sung to the tune of the famous Shaker song, Simple Gifts, composed by Joseph Brackett Jr.
Verse 1
’Tis the dream of the many, the power we share,
’Tis the call to stand up for each neighbor’s care;
And when we join together where the prairie rolls bright,
We will find in the Flint Hills a justice-lit light.
Refrain
When true solidarity is gain’d,
To rise and to build we shan’t be restrain’d;
To turn, turn—organize day and night,
Till by turning, turning we set things right.
Verse 2
From the bluestem that shivers beneath the Kansas sky,
Hear a meadowlark singing as our banners fly;
We raise every voice in the working-class song,
Flint Hills DSA stands united and strong.
(Refrain)
When true solidarity is gain’d,
To rise and to build we shan’t be restrain’d;
To turn, turn—organize day and night,
Till by turning, turning we set things right.
Verse 3
We will broaden the circle, let no one stand alone,
Forge a commons of plenty where each need is known;
And the prairie wind whispers, “Keep hope burning bright,”
For the world we are sowing will bloom red and white.
(Final Refrain – slower)
When true solidarity is gain’d,
To rise and to build we shan’t be restrain’d;
To turn, turn—organize day and night,
Till by turning, turning we set things right.
